Head tilted back in surprise,
At the day-glow orange light
And the way the frigid rain fell so hard from the sky--In the school parking lot.
The dark crept out from the gullies
And swallowed the souls of their shoes,
Nipping lightly at their pant legs.
Each beaded droplet of rain sighs
Against the shoal of her neck
As a necklace of pearls and diamonds.
